Sally Purcell

Sally Purcell

In 2002, Paulding County resident Sally Purcell began volunteering with the WellStar Paulding Hospital Auxiliary. A lovely, funny person, she was considered by all who knew her as a joy to be around. She was instrumental in organizing and planning the first Fashion Show fundraiser to generate donations to benefit the hospital. After Sally passed away from cancer in 2008, the auxiliary voted to create a scholarship in her memory. The Sally Purcell Memorial scholarship continues to be funded by the WellStar Paulding Hospital Auxiliary and is awarded each year to provide educational opportunities for WellStar Paulding Hospital employees or Paulding County residents pursuing a degree in a healthcare related field.

Impact

The recipients of the Sally Purcell Memorial scholarship receive funding to help offset the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, educational equipment and other costs related to the applicant’s pursuit of a degree in a healthcare profession. Increasing the supply of qualified healthcare professionals within the WellStar Paulding Hospital community is the primary purpose and impact of awarding the Sally Purcell Memorial scholarship.
